Venue & Format
Most public events take place in the Wanda Coleman Theater, with some events presented in the Poets’ Garden or in other spaces throughout Beyond Baroque. A select number of events are presented exclusively online.
Most in-person public events are also streamed live and archived on YouTube.
About the Wanda Coleman Theater
Named for Wanda Coleman, the Wanda Coleman Theater honors one of the defining poets of Los Angeles. Coleman honed her craft as a young writer in Beyond Baroque’s workshops, performed regularly on its stage throughout her career, and mentored generations of poets in the community. Her work and presence helped shape Beyond Baroque’s programs and community across many decades.
Wanda Coleman (1946–2013) was a poet, fiction writer, essayist, performer, and one of the essential literary voices of Los Angeles. The theater is named in her honor and in recognition of her enduring importance to Beyond Baroque.
Admission
Admission varies by event. Most ticketed events are $10 General Admission, $6 Students/Seniors, and free for Members. Some events are free, and certain programs may have special pricing. Please check individual event listings for details.
Curatorial Policy
Beyond Baroque’s public programs are curated by its programming staff. We welcome inquiries and proposals for readings, performances, screenings, conversations, and other events, though we are not able to accommodate all requests. To submit a program inquiry, please visit this form.
Rentals
Beyond Baroque occasionally rents the Wanda Coleman Theater, Poets’ Garden, and other spaces to other organizations and individuals seeking to produce cultural events or other kinds of gatherings. Those rentals aren’t included in our calendar of activities, and the event organizers will need to be contacted directly about tickets, admission etc. If you’d like to rent our space, please visit our rental page.
